If anything, they’re proof-of-work. For most people, at least (unless your money comes free). You gotta work, provide value, trade your time and energy for money that you save and then trade for a ring, which you then give to another human as a representation of your desire for their partnership and of the work you have both already completed to build a relationship strong enough to sign contracts about it.
