I'm not such a fan of Adam Smith.

I agree with the importance of the Austrian school, but would like to make a special mention of Bohm-Bawerk, who is an excellent writer and very good at debunking things. He shows the internal logic of an opponents' views well, and then shows why it cannot be the case.

In terms of popular/introductory texts, I think Herny Hazlitt's Economics in One Lesson and Per Bylund's recent How to Think About the Economy are quite good.
