Pour water over it. If glass breaks you have to burn the ice well. Pour curcao in it to see all the glass to clean up and refill it with ice. It's a bitch but it happens.

You can use ferret I suppose but it isn't the same. Bitters have a very high alcohol content and taste stronger.

Also depends on the drink! You might be able to get away with it.
