yeah, it has to be a chicken first because an egg is not capable of doing anything except turning into a chicken
the same logic applies to rivers and seas - do we see water on mars? that's because it starts out as a naked rock
there is this fairytale that mars used to have life... no, it's not possible, it never got big enough to have a strong magnetosphere like earth, and it hasn't been in the goldilocks temperature zone for a long long time either, both conditions are required - water does a lot towards making a stable temperature but it can't overcome the constant bombardment with radiation
