Zeiss GmbH has developed a treatment method for breast cancer radiation therapy (IORT) that enables targeted radiation to be administered directly to the affected area after removal of the tumour. The chance of success is about 100%, usually only one treatment is necessary and it is relatively inexpensive. That all sounds good, but why isn't it used across the board?
Yes, exactly, the latter point. With conventional radiotherapy, which is an extreme physical/psychological burden due to the numerous upper body irradiations, one earns at least 10 times as much. How is that ethically justifiable?
