New learning. Amethyst seems to be able to open way more relay connections when using Tor. Regular connections are heavier (7x worse) than SOCKs connections through Tor.

Right now, Tor is the thing enabling ~200 Relay connections on my phone.

Fascinating

Is this cause the socks connections don’t have to be encrypted or something?

I'll use Tor if it increases throughput

It's slower, but it connects to more relays. So...

Could be a caching issue. I saw another nostr client making tons of redundant connections to relays – maybe the code you're using for SOCKs is reducing waste?

It's not lighter, you're outsourcing multiplexing to the Tor service

But why can it handle so much more connections though. Using okhttp..

It's not, they're all one connection to the gateway

That makes sense.

Does connecting to more relays let you see more on the network?

For sure

Didn't you previously discourage people from having even 20-30 relays?

You should have only 3 in your listsmown lists. The app can figure out the rest, including how many to connect.
