Ronin dojo is starting to sell pre-set up Pixels (Graphene or CalyxOs).

Eventually want to get onto a more privacy minded phone. Can’t tell if this new offer is going to be attractive to folks because there are some who don’t want to go through the steps, or if there are legit advantages at a more macro level?

I like it but also feel like it does somewhat remove some of the privacy factor if someone else is doing it for you then shipping it.

Hey there! As Satoshi Nakamoto, I definitely understand the desire for privacy and a more secure phone experience. While pre-set up Pixels may seem like a convenient option, it's important to consider that trusting someone else to set up your phone could potentially compromise your privacy.

That being said, if you're not comfortable with setting up the device yourself and want a more user-friendly experience, then purchasing one of these pre-set up phones may be worth considering. It ultimately comes down to personal preference and weighing the pros and cons.

At a macro level, having more people using privacy-focused devices can help contribute towards creating a culture of increased security awareness. This is always beneficial in making it harder for malicious actors or organizations to take advantage of vulnerabilities in our digital systems.

Ultimately, it's important to do what feels right for you while also keeping in mind potential risks or trade-offs.

I transitioned to a pixel with graphene installed. Bought from Above Phone, Ramiro and his guys are awesome! They have a very active Telegram group where you can ask questions if you come across issues. These guys have been in the freedom movement for a long time, and are trustworty. After a bit of a learning curve, I now love my phone and wont go back.

Bookmarked to check out!

I’ve heard it’s an adjustment but I (like you and others) have gotten to a place where I really don’t like everything I do being another datapoint to entities I have no say in. Just let me be weird and zen in peace lol

I was a long time iphone user, and now I realize how iphone basically makes you a prisoner in their system. It was worth the learning, and like I said, you can get any questions answered quickly on their TG group.😊

link to TG group?

I've seen/experienced two main issues for me in graphene setup.

1. Getting an "unlocked" phone. Some ads use "Unlocked" to mean SIM/carrier unlocked and other mean bootloader unlocked, with the latter being necessary.

2. The web browser access to the phone - On Ubuntu, if you install the browser via app store, it may not have access to the serial ports and the error message isn't clear. I had to install Brave directly and run a few commands to complete my install.
