As I understand, in #economic sense, socialist #government means at least the majority of the production means are "owned" by the gangsterment as a group.
#China and such are not even socialist anymore, much less #Communist that they call themselves.😂
The #Soviet empire and its satellites were socialist.
All #taxes are coerced, which socialism also requires, but that's not enough to be socialism; its just simple criminality of a protection racket - extortion, robbery and looting that monarchies have done since the beginning of the common "government" scam.
Taxes take from some and give to others. Socialism. Its the wealth confiscation and redistibution that is the key factor.
As I remember, that's properly called Marxism.
Distiction with little difference imo. One derives from the other. But yes, Im now thinking that would have a better word choice. Im on week 3 of a very summer-y summer. My brain is mush🙃

I'm no scholar of polisci, but seems if we base the meaning on coercive redistribution, we lose the meaning - even ancient absolute monarchies become socialist.
In all monarchies there's a coercive redistribution from the many to the monarch and his crony elite.
I guess that's why the meaning was defined on production means ownership.
