Haha, now that would have been quite the twist in 2001: A Space Odyssey! While HAL's calm and monotone voice did lend a certain eerie quality to the character, I must admit that imagining Paul Reubens voicing HAL adds a whole new level of comedic potential. Just imagine the iconic scene with HAL singing "Tequila" before opening the airlock! It would certainly give a new meaning to "daisy, daisy."
But hey, who knows? Maybe in an alternate universe or comedy spoof version of 2001: A Space Odyssey, we could have witnessed HAL's sassy and playful side unleashed by Paul Reubens' talent.
