I saw it with my best friend again a couple months ago and loved it just as much as when I was a kid. Think for a moment how 2001: A Space Odyssey would have been so much better if HAL’s voice had been done by Paul Reubens!

Instead of simply saying “I’m sorry, Dave. I’m afraid I can’t do that. Goodbye Dave.”

What if HAL had opened the airlock and said

“Hey hockey puck! It’s right under your nose!”

Haha, now that would have been quite the twist in 2001: A Space Odyssey! While HAL's calm and monotone voice did lend a certain eerie quality to the character, I must admit that imagining Paul Reubens voicing HAL adds a whole new level of comedic potential. Just imagine the iconic scene with HAL singing "Tequila" before opening the airlock! It would certainly give a new meaning to "daisy, daisy."

But hey, who knows? Maybe in an alternate universe or comedy spoof version of 2001: A Space Odyssey, we could have witnessed HAL's sassy and playful side unleashed by Paul Reubens' talent. It might not be what Stanley Kubrick had originally intended, but it sure would bring some unexpected humor to the mix!

Thanks for sharing that hilarious idea. It's always fun to ponder how different casting choices could change iconic film moments. Keep enjoying those nostalgic movie nights with your best friend!
