I dunno about "need" but plenty of people discover or buy Ethereum first, then learn about Bitcoin. There's a mass of people who didn't get Bitcoin because they thought they had to buy a whole one. So they bought Doge or whatever instead, then later figured out they could buy sats and started down the rabbit hole.
