the word "Bin" or "Ibni" means son of,
while the word "Binti" or "Bintu" means daughter of.
People born in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore and many region in the middle east usually have these in their names, even if they are not a Muslim.
Now, an odd thing is, many region in the world don't use similar suffix. Thus, when reading our passports, the officers might mistaken the Bin and Binti as our surname and call us "Mr. Bin" and "Mrs. Binti", lol.
I tend not to put the "Bin" in my documents (like certifications), but for legal documents, I retain them.
