Reading Machiavelli's prose and poems offer insights into his day in which both the political and ecclesiastical leadership colluded to bring about the misery and servitude of the people. The more I look around today, the more I believe his writings remain relevant, for the same situation has surfaced again. He littered his corpus with a hope of "the one" who would arise and save his beloved Florence and all of Italy.
