just to reinforce, the weak point is getting inbound connections to work, but there is many ways to negotiate this
and if people have desktop computers that are always on or get a rpi or whatever their relay can be always on and available to them if it can receive posts from outside, it can receive queries from authorised inside
Additionally, relays add some privacy. They shield IP addresses. What is TOR after all then a system of using relays to shield IP addresses.
I love the idea of peer to peer networks, but there are advantages to relays as well beyond just connectivity.
