Why is it that normies are scared of nostr because "Its Jacks new twitter"

But they're all FOMOing into BlueSky ?

It’s so lame to tie Jack to nostr that way. Yeah he funded some of the projects and devs to build on the protocol (and I really appreciate his generosity there) but the protocol is open for anyone to build whatever they want on it. Jack doesn’t own anything related to the protocol.

For some reason this narrative that nostr is "Jacks project" has taken hold

But Bluesky is LITERALLY Jacks project lmao

and it’s closed source(IIRC?) and requires invites to join? Opposite of nostr today

I think most of us in the states have been taught for a generation now that safety can only be obtained through centralization.

“We must be permitted to have an account on someone else’s server — that’s how computers work, right?”

The headwinds for anyone who wants to maintain control of their privacy or property are substantial. Most people don’t face a substantial upside to justify taking that on.

If we want to make the argument that people should make a different choice, we can either lower the risk or demonstrate a sufficiently compelling upside.

Nostr seems capable of doing both — but we aren’t there just yet.
