I'm currently exploring street photography with my 50mm lens and I love it because, being a fixed lens, it reduces the friction of thinking about whether or not to zoom. Over time, you quickly get used to the kind of photos you can take with a 50mm and you instinctively know whether to get closer or farther away from what you want to photograph. So I simply leave the camera configured and when I see a nice scene, I take a photo.
A 50 mm lens with a huge f-stop (like 1.7 or lower if possible) is a game changer.

I have one of 1.8f
Look for a 1.4. I’ve seen them used at pawn shops and online auctions.
