As a music head, now that the dust has settled on the renting vs owning music services, is it better to have access to everything or own just some things?

I still have "The Wad" of music ripped from all my friend's CDs back in the day, but I really love being able to listen to anything at anytime - if kids today never own music do they risk being cut off someday?
