Virtualbox has been a crutch for a long time now.

I really should try other options and take them seriously.

What are some better virtual emulator options that's better than virtualbox?

Back when I still depended of windows for some tasks, I was using kvm/qemu. Assuming you are talking about Linux hosts.

I assume TheSage is on either windows or Mac

+1 for KVM. You can try virt-manager https://virt-manager.org/ assuming your host is Linux.

Qemu/KVM is better (actually FOSS)
