Tarrifs do work.

But Trump is not using them to protect or promote American industry, he's trying to use them to punish other countries.

Tarrifs simply don't work for that, if you try to use them as a weapon they only hurt your own economy.

The last time an American president tried to use tarrifs against other countries it led to the great depression
