Arguably it was carefully calculated and negotiated to avoid escalation: impressive enough to make Iran look strong, soft enough that the Iron Dome (with some help) could stop it. Spending $1.1B to prevent a war that costs trillions is a good deal. World peace would be nice of course, saves us all a bunch of money - and lives.
Sounds like a $1.1B injection into the US defense industry and a boost to our GDP 🤷🏼♂️ I’m not saying it makes sense.

In the end, those resources were meant to meet mid air from the start so it wasn't really a waste on neither side. It wasn't even a significant clearing of military stock as it was hardly 1% of either side's fire power.
