I wouldn't say this is necessarily a good thing, this means you might not see messages from strangers who are trying to message you. damus would consider this way too much of a decision for a client to be making for you. but if people are happy with that then okay!

I could add a checkbox to disable that filter in settings. On paid relays it's probably fine without it. And for DMs I could add a limited list for requests from strangers, although it's vulnerable to spam.

Without the ability to flip it off, completely agree. Sane defaults with user control.

what changed in the global algorithm?

Iris rejects posts from authors that your social network has had no interaction with. But sometimes people in your network follow or reply to randos on other apps, and they connect with spammers.

How do you guys filter the spam?
