Should #PodSystems add a haram label warning since we embrace all four of these?

Yes!

no, please. there are lots of anti muslim groups that use a 'haram' label as a badge of honor and its distasteful imo.

has any real scholar actually said AI is haram to use?

That's a good question. nostr:npub18z533j9gxhnlkqukp75wnd5mjv5njqkaj07atslnrk2dp9rxsp0q6650l4 do you know any fatwa against AI?

I think the haram label is a bit more comedic and aimed at the fiqhmaxis. The duaa of forgiveness actually makes for a good reminder which has benefit.

I think itll push people away. the dua is good, you can have it without the haram label.

like a rated R movie is known for drugs, alcohol, sex.

maybe I'm ousting myself here but the H label gives the same vibe.

I'll undoubtedly watch too many R rated films 😭

Maybe we'll need to create our own rating system. Will be useful to distignish betwen the podcast that are kids shows and ones that are adult. Certainly something to think about. 🤔

There have been scholarly discussions and cautious rulings around AI, but not blanket fatwas declaring it outright haram. The consensus across several studies is more nuanced—AI is generally considered permissible (mubah) unless it’s used in ways that contradict Islamic ethics or cause harm.

Scholars often begin with the principle that new technologies are allowed unless proven harmful or unethical.

If AI is used for beneficial purposes—like education, healthcare, or improving access to religious knowledge—it’s often encouraged. But if it’s used for deception, surveillance, or violating privacy, it may be deemed impermissible.

Some scholars have explored whether AI can issue fatwas. The ruling here is that AI can relay fatwas but not originate them, since it lacks human understanding, spiritual insight, and accountability.

- A study on GPT-3.5 found it could issue family law fatwas with surprising accuracy, but also made errors in sensitive areas like divorce and inheritance. Scholars emphasised the need for oversight and warned against relying solely on AI for religious rulings.

There are concerns about AI’s role in shaping moral decisions, especially when it comes to automation in warfare, surveillance, or biased algorithms.

- Scholars stress the importance of intent, transparency, and human accountability when deploying AI in Islamic contexts.

So while there’s no universal fatwa declaring AI haram, there’s a growing body of scholarship urging caution, ethical design, and clear boundaries.

The key thing is for us to be at the forefront of research and development and pioneer the next wave of technologies and play by our own rules. Not 'theirs'.

Yeah, I couldn't remember any either although there are indeed some sentiments that do give this impression. J actually know some major pro-AI fatwas so that says something there. 😏

Main take away, it is a tool and the permisibility is going to relate not to the tool itself but how the human uses the tool. This makes since at least until we have autonomous AGI. Very likely we could see a shift then toward caution.

Yes, like Skynet. The Bots taking over! Lol

So the meme is misleading at best?

So ultimately the scholars were right? its a tool that when used for good is permissible and vice versa.

this kind of rhetoric only serves as divisive, it puts a target on our back and makes it seem like we don't respect the scholars.

It provides ammunition for the opposition.

Depends on how you read it. Most memes are a bit vauge and open to some interpretive license. I see this as random uncle who's a little over zealous. A lot of traditionalists tend to lean ludite so it's not far off in that regard.

Although I appreciate your perspective, I think it's also important for us to be able to express satire and parody, without taking everything too seriously. No disrespect was intended. There have been many issues in the past from religious authorities from all faiths, including non-religious skeptics, with new technologies. Exercising caution is one thing, Orwellian control, over zealousness and stifling of innovation in worldly matters is another.

Yeah, we do have a lot of arm-chair faqihs and that's only going to amplify with AI muftis...

believe it or not there is such a thing as a 'Bad' meme
