I vote, but my voting isn't necessarily more-effective than my other efforts. I do think that it's a way to send a strong collective signal and unnerve lazy and corrupt politicians, as we can see with the AfD.

It is, in the end, the most secure and private poll of the citizenry's opinions. Everyone rules with the consent of the governed, so losing such a poll means their pedestal is crumbling.

I didn't mean to talk about voting as such.

More about ppl expecting (and believing) the government can take care of all things instead of them.

And that leads to those nihilistic tendencies you described.
