Why is pen and paper better than digital medium for memory?

There is no clear-cut answer to whether pen and paper are better than digital media for memory, as both have their advantages and disadvantages. However, some studies suggest that writing by hand can have certain benefits for memory compared to typing on a digital device.

One possible reason is that writing by hand is a more active and deliberate process than typing, requiring more cognitive processing and engagement with the material. This deeper engagement with the material may lead to better retention and recall of information.

Additionally, when writing by hand, people tend to create a more personal and meaningful connection with the material they are writing. This connection may also contribute to better memory.

Another factor is that handwriting can be more conducive to creativity and free-form thinking than typing on a digital device. Some people find that the tactile experience of writing by hand can help them better express their ideas and think more deeply about the subject matter.

However, it's worth noting that digital media can have its own advantages for memory, such as the ability to easily organize and search through notes, and the option to incorporate multimedia elements like images and audio recordings.

Ultimately, whether pen and paper or digital media is better for memory depends on the individual and their specific preferences and learning style. It's also possible to use a combination of both mediums to take advantage of the benefits of each.

💯 I haven't used a pen a paper for a long time. Time to revert!

I type things everywhere, notes to remember, I have tasks all over the place to update and complete, (GitHub, Google docs, slack) 😩

I figured if I break and write them down day by day in this notebook with priorities and even any notes I need to add to them, Much simpler and more pro active to remember as it says above as you write you become more connected. I really agree with that one.

I used to love been organised with my note pads and pens until digital took over, I'm going back to the dark side anyway see how it goes haha 👌

How dare I suggest paper im tech savvy Haaa. But yea the chat gpt is smarter more eloquent than me. Maybe not everyone is wired the same way but I feel like it always helps me with something new I want to know more of depending (and you can doodle 🤙 you cant draw like that on digital)
