considering getting a used or refurbished ipad just to read pdf's and books on the go

Why not a more affordable simple android tablet (run graphene on it) or like you said a quality kindle?

I'm leaning towards an affordable android tablet for another graphene device

and i need smooth pdf experience

I was thinking portability. You might want an iPad Air if screen size is important.

kindle is far better on the eyes if you just purely want to read. e-ink is like print on paper, it’s pretty amazing

Why not an e-ink reader like Kobo?

Low power usage, easy on eyes, can be used in direct sunlight.

pdf speed and smoothness

like the idea of it, though they are rather costly for sure

love the smoothness of them, regarding graphs and such, i'd probably miss colours though, which is why i'm pivoting more towards the ipad
