Hey, this is serious. Healthcare and abortion freedom is under attack from the GOP and my main criticism of this MAGA/religious fueled movement.

It shouldn’t matter which state you live in. Abortion and healthcare access should be universal. This isn’t a game.

Why isn't ok for a group of people to vote that in their communities, abortion is illegal, and anyone who doesn't like it is free to leave?

Why must there be a uniform position on something so divisive?

Decisions like this shouldn’t be up for a vote, just like free speech shouldn’t be up for a vote. Bodily autonomy and personal healthcare decisions should not be dictated by the state.

And what of the bodily autonomy of the child in the whom? Does it not deserve some protection, healthcare and rights?

This is the endless loop we've been in for decades now, to me the only reasonable solution is free market where some places allow and others don't, and see what free choices people make?

At the very least, if it puts the mothers life at risk, that is a different situation in my mind

Free market solutions are great… but without valid (and accessible) choices for individuals, there is no free market. As such, a “free market where some places allow and others don’t” really is borderline NOT a free market.

While it’s one thing to say “states should have the right” to legislate … the size of jurisdiction (and one’s ability to immigrate and emigrate and feel represented) REALLY does matter.

If freedom to choose actually matters (as people on all sides of this issue say that it does, for different reasons) maybe divisive issues like this should really be legislated at the municipal level.

Agreed. 🤷‍♂️ let folks have differing opinions, it’s part of what makes American American

How on gods earth do you think the US can make healthcare universal when it’s an incredibly privatized/and non privatized industry? Besides saying the words I don’t see much solution or ideas for this type of thoughts. I think healthcare and insurance is terrible here too but you think one party gives enough f**** about to make it universal or accessible? That’s just silly af

Many pro life advocates see abortion as murder, certainly in latter stages of pregnancy.

To see what you have suggested above through their eyes, and to understand why your statement is not self evidently true to all, imagine someone else declaring:

"It shouldn't matter which state you live in, murder should be universally allowed."

I'm not necessarily arguing that abortion is always murder, but this is effectively what you are saying from the perspective of the people on the other side of this issue.

I just noticed the article you linked to. This is no doubt a very sad story. That said though, to argue that abortion should be freely available based on stories like this while not placing any weight at all or even acknowledging the moral and ethical problem of terminating the lives of hundreds of thousands of unborn babies, does not give a balanced assessment.

To put it in bitcoin terms, it's like saying bitcoin mining is bad and should be banned because it uses energy and produces greenhouse gas emissions, and is used by criminals, while ignoring all the positive impact bitcoin is having, and can have in future.
