there is a whole episode on the Rotten series on Netflix about Big Garlic. How the peeled garlic in the stores is prob peeled by CCP prisoners. Has undrrcover video too. Seems legit. Crazy stuff. Never buying peeled garlic again.

now that you mention it tho they mightve said something in the doxumentary about america being the biggest consumer of peeled garlic cant remember exactly tho but would not be surprised
