Today as Assange appears to be free, I’m thinking about my uncle, former FT and Guardian Muddle East correspondent who was sacked under orders of the US state department for trying to report the truth in the Middle East.

We’re all cunts somehow, no one is perfect but war crimes are war crimes and should be reported. The US and UK murdered around 250,000 innocent Iraqi people. Think about that for a minute.

RIP Gareth, I love you and think about you every day.

Fucking typos! Damn I wish I could edit on here.

We killed way more than that. And I can't believe I haven't heard a single word regarding this. Looked it up just now 👀! This is a huge moment in history! But... he'll be under observation 24/7!

Sorry about your uncle🫂

Thanks, he really was a brilliant man, my one regret is not spending enough time with him. He died too young. He packed a lot into that life though!

I believe the number is 1 million dead Iraqi's, of whom had nothing to do with 9/11

I went for a safer estimate as I’m aware there’s too much hyperbole in the world but I think you’re right. So much death over fuck all. 9/11 was bloody Saudis ffs! But hey, they’re happy to do deals with oil and weapons so it’s all good as far as US and UK.

Assange getting out is a definite win. Now maybe more journalists will start being brave again?! I don’t think there’s any from that school left.
