I blame Apple and iTunes. Since iTunes started by leasing access to music you had ALREADY paid for, it's been a slow sly creep toward digital serfdom... i couldn't identify it at first, but this has been my ideological beef with Apple since the iPod.

Valid point. That was the beginning of the end when that idea became normalized in our lives.
