Great one!
My favorite myth story so far that I've heard it's either the Chumash natives in long beach and all of life starting on Catalina island before they took a rainbow bridge to the mainland (that's also how dolphins came to be... But I'm just giving the broad strokes) or the story I think it's from the souix tribes around Montana, but they believed coyote was in love with the moon back when she walked the earth. Coyote was a trickster though, he couldn't help but play games. Someone (maybe coyote I forget) made the moon a gorgeous black velvet coat, but one day getting carried away coyote threw the coat into the air and it got stuck. The land fell to darkness and people got scared and sick and started dieing. So the moon went into the sky to get her coat. She moves across the sky rolling around in it. This explains the day night cycle as well as the waxing waning full moon because she half covered herself in it then on does it the same.
Maybe it's a big blanket🤷🏽
Either way. Coyote howls at the moon because he misses her. One day he even tried to get her to come down. He flung hundreds of thousands of hummingbirds at the cloak to punch holes in it so the light would come through in the dark and the moon wouldn't have to do her job anymore.
But the light of the stars is not enough. 🤷🏽🤍🖤🤍🖤
