The motive of the death playing chess with the night, is something Bergman saw painted in a Swedish Medival Chruch, just north of Stockholm. It's a cool visit.

I saw it the first time this summer and the vickar showed us around, with much enthusiasm.

If visitng Sweden I could really recommend a visit in Täby Kyrkby, where the 13th century church stands.
