Yes. Also a summer wildflower display is phenomenal, as also is music festival, hiking and rock climbing town. Very expensive but everything is within walking distance. Dog bowls are embedded into sidewalks and dogs are allowed in the shops. The speed limit is dog-friendly too. The drawbacks are: expensive, a little snooty (some residents), one road into and out of the valley, 2 hours from Denver if I recall, so air travel plus other transportation necessary. Ouray is around the corner; hot springs.
If you want really old west, go to Silverton. Marble, Redstone are very very small, but close enough to Carbondale, or the pricier, more uppity Aspen, that you get city amenities nearby, if you can stand cities.
