The development ethos over here feels so much more open and driven. Things happen faster, development is moving at a rapid pace and devs are willing to just try new things without discussing it to death first.

I’m also pretty active (no where near as much as here) on Bluesky and was one of the first 1000 users let in (evan.best over there), but it feels far more sterile, development moves a lot slower, and everything feels far more deliberate and centralized (so far?).

That said, they’ve definitely gotten a few things right. Domains as usernames is great, and FAR easier to configure than NIP-05. Their interface is also far more polished than any nostr client I’ve used, albeit limited in functionality.

Well said. I need to setup my own domain

It will probably move a lot faster as they continue to open up APIs and federation. I def prefer the nostr model from the start, but don’t want to write anything off. Good ideas everywhere and the goals are similar. However, I don’t appreciate or think it wise to go squarely after Twitter. That won’t end well, and is extremely myopic.

💯

what should goal be?

Completely agree. Not writing anything off, but it’s hard for most people to see the potential of their protocol when all they’re showcasing is a less-functional twitter clone.

Twitter products are more suitable for "breaking news" to spread faster and obtain information more conveniently.

Users post news on the spot where the news happens.

and yes, they have cohesive design! Need more designers on nostr who are thinking end to end and through complete workflows.

UI/UX should definitely be a focus for Nostr, if can be pretty overwhelming for new people

Yes. Really needs a significant focus.

I could see why someone would choose to use Bluesky as the UI is familiar and easy, Nostr can be a bit too tech-focused for the average user, if that makes sense?

#[7] and I spoke exactly about this on what we recorded today

My point was that, using jack’s “running from vs running towards”, building stuff that is in the “running from” bucket is easier to design since a great body of work on UX exists that can be largely copied

But the “running towards” is, by definition, new paradigms that need to be explored and UX might suffer until the nature of the solutions that emerge become clearer

💯

We’re going to make this better

There is tension between experimentation because of a new data paradigm and ease of use.

Both are important.

Oh 100%, I love Nostr and I'm definitely here for the long haul.

I think so far from my client experimenting Damus has it down the best so far

Damus is the most ‘user-friendly’ by far but there’s something in the underlying UX/UI that makes it unpalatable to your average social media junkie

It’s ok to be an alternative for the addicts

hehehe.

nostr in its current form reminds me a bit of the early-00s IRC days, where knowledge was a currency, because not everyone who used the chat relay had it

💯

True. And I think design is a biggest selling point from users perspective

Makes everything easier

Need them in a team
