A lot of people have been saying that I should not be collecting donations because I'm not a "valid non profit" but the thing is, we need help for people right now and need someone here on the ground floor on nostr, not just a website where you can "request a grant" if you don't trust me, it's ok.

Theres nothing wrong with collecting donations and disbursing funds as a community organizer. I would recommend keeping copious records of what entity funds were released to and relationship if you have concerns.

Also something I forgot to mention is that you as the funder will now have a say in which projects and reasons funds will be dispatched.
