#nostr is awesome. I’m trying to figure out why there are far less assholes here… I have some theories:

1) there’s self filtering going on because you think to yourself “does this need to be a public statement?” before posting something that can’t ever be deleted

2) a #zap incentivizes value over divisiveness

3) #Bitcoin serves as a common core belief system that allows discourse on other orbiting topics

Because #nostr is your pure digital identity ... one has to be careful ..

On regular socials - your name (or your work) is your id ..

Yeah I agree you could expand on 1) with a whole discussion around caring for and curating a reputation I guess but I think the key point is you can’t edit- only correct yourself afterwards which takes some stomach. Maybe I’m not understanding what you’re getting at though?

Reputation becomes meaningful only after you are identified .. and depends on the circle you are in ... Identity is more fundamental ...

In the digital realm - AIs will (have to) identify you with your #nostr ID .. because all other data stores get purged in matter of years (if not days or months) .. the nostr model gives perpetuity to thoughts the way bitcoin does to money .. it does so by allowing you to maintain your own relay as a last resort ...

I mean reputation is a parameter on Twitter .. because you are already identified as someone ..

#nostr is the process of giving birth to a new perpetual ID ..

Is reputation not a part of this new perpetual ID? Do people not care about it?

Reputation is fragile and fleating external impression - Jamie Dimon is a great banker to some :-) ..

Identity is permanent.. it is an inwards assessment of who we are .. we can seek different reputations in different circles .. but we can't change our opinion of self ..

I’ll have what you’re having please 😅

Hi Eric, great discussion.

On my side, I don't think many users are too cautious about publishing anything because of the impossibility of deleting something.

For sure, these people exist, but I have the impression that the sensation that this community is better comes from the other two points you mentioned here.

The fact that notes can be zapped incentivizes making them the best possible. Although people disagree on what is "best possible," they end up finding a niche of people that like what they like, or they give up.

But most of all, the fact that #Bitcoin mentality is the standard here, at least until now, creates a better place for plebs.

At last, I feel that Nostr needs to go beyond just chilling Bitcoin and itself, to be more compelling to others, but that will come naturally with time.

Have a great evening, sir!

Horns up for Satoshi!

Agreed. Yeah I was wondering how much each of them played. I do hope/assume one day Bitcoin is sort of just ever present through zaps and commerce yet not the main topic of conversation. For now I’m enjoying it though.
