I wish this wasn't the only game to use "lock-on-technology", it would have been cool to see expansions with cartridges

I remember being amazed by this at the time. The reality was they couldn't finish the full game on schedule and split it in two. Great marketing though, and an amazing final game when combined with Sonic 3.
