Is anyone working on any geo-orientated NIPs?

I'm thinking of #[0] usecases, but it's something that could also be extended to meatspace discovery.

Totally opt-in of course.

Anyone want to author a NIP with me?

Would this be like a check-in type post we used to see on FB or being able to tag a post with a location like instagram like hanging out at bitcoin beach kinda thing?

Would pretty cool, would be great for discovery and be an attraction for businesses to get onto Nostr, I know many local businesses who hated Instagram but moved to it simply because people asked them to set up account so they could tag it in their posts lol

Yep, check-in style stuff but also local p-2-p discovery too with accuracy bounds.

i.e. people with #interestXYZ within 20kms.

Yes, see:

Awesome. I wasn't aware of this wider list of proposals, thx.

Hey Nathan! Would love to work with you to help refine and improve this concept. Early on it seemed like GeoJSON objects would be a natural fit. Now I’m not so sure that string encoding one spec inside of another is a good idea. You can effectively represent the same data and relationships using the existing nostr tags [e,p,t,g]

As you’ll see in the comments, the g tag just kinda showed up one day unannounced. I think it’s great, but see no reason why it should be limited to a geohash. Starting to lean towards the idea of putting WKB in there and using content and #t for everything else.
