how has it gotten that bad so fast? we used to look up to Germany as an example of a modern industry, great infrastructure & engineering, efficiency, work ethic... who tf ruined it? they should be in jail.

I think Germany has proven that it's perfectly capable of going to shit without the euro.
I had a fiat currency and corrupt politics even before the Euro. The latter just accelerated this development.
