truth.social is a mastodon fork made into a walled garden. (I actually think that was a tactical error, but I don't run a big business.)

I don’t think there is any mastodon code in truth social. My understanding is the code is based on Soapbox and Pleroma which are compatible with the ActivityPub protocol and some of Mastodon’s additions to it, but it’s not a fork.

Even if there were, there’s nothing wrong with reusing open source code in new and different ways, that’s the entire point, it’s not to give you software you don’t have to pay for, it’s about creating a common set of tools to build together in the commons.

Agree. Nothing wrong with repurposing. It's just that since Trump created it to *increase* his reach after getting canceled from Twitter, a walled garden is the wrong way to go - IMHO of course. Wait - is it still a walled garden? Can I follow truth social people from another domain now?

Doesn't seem like it. Oh well. Url syntax sure looks like AP urls.

However, truthsocial.co.in is in the fediverse!

It is AP, but not Mastodon. ;-D
