Common misconception: a pleb not updating your node has ZERO impact on if a soft fork is successful or not. Soft forks are by definition backwards compatible. Therefore you have to actively resist a soft fork you deem evil or your node will by default do nothing to blocks that contain the soft fork. You have to adopt a new node client that actively rejects blocks that signal for a soft fork.

Saying Bitcoin will not change because you won’t update your node is 100% false in a purely technical sense.
