It depends on what you study.

I spent 8 hours a day playing clarinet for 4 years at college solo and with other musicians and I got pretty good at it.

That’s fair but definitely the exception to the rule. Most are pushing papers and learning how get the credits. I went to business school and I got damn good at getting those credits. Learned some theory and scratched the surface of some real skills along the way but essentially learned how to earn a degree and not a whole lot else. Skill building for me started after I graduated.
