I have an opportunity to talk to younger residents.

I am somewhat convinced

1- low time preference and

2- small daily habits with a focus on long term life or avoiding ruin

Will / do

a) create implicit “contracts” with myself in the future and such contracts

b) reduce present anxiety or eliminate risk to burnout.

Anyone know of non anecdotal science suggesting such future orientation actually helps in medicine?

W/ respect thx

I think what you’re describing is creating and nurturing “purpose”

I don’t know of any research, but it stands to reason. Especially since the way that admins keep us under control is by constantly moving the goal line and undermining our previous works.

I share your conviction. 👍

I’ve given the talk 2 times now

Relatively well received

However

Medscape says 59% docs now in favor of unions

I ask

Is a union even in accord with a physician as a professional (ie can you profess anything and be part of a union)???
