tl;dr: I would use zaps or invite codes to onboard unconnected newbies. Storage and bandwidth are limited, so it is not possible to allow unlimited write access to everyone. As Nostr becomes more popular, any spam opportunities will be exploited. Regexes, IP rate limits, PoW are just band-aids that can be circumvented.

Yes - that’s basically the only thing I can come up with too. But still not everyone will be invited or be willing to pay so it seems incomplete.

Maybe we can have newbie discovery relays that use Cloudflare turnstile or something. Iris.to uses it for nip05 name registration. At least it's a temporary fix.
