https://njump.me/ doesn't generate the text previews for notes that are small, because they fit the normal preview. See

I didn't know X was so bad it didn't rendered the preview text in mobile apps or whatever is happening in there. Should njump render the images every time for X? Even when the content is small?

Yes, and it should also be pretty

You don't think black text on white background is pretty?

You could add the user avatar, have a nice font, have some whitespace, add some other metadata, etc.

Something like this:

The fact that multiple "beautiful twitter screenshot" tools exist should tell us something...

https://tweethunter.io/tweetpik

https://tweets.beauty/

I'm not sure anyone uses these. One is broken and generates nothing, the other worked, but I'm not sure the result is that great.

Well, it's not that I haven't thought of doing this kind of stuff, I just think the amount of work it would take is enormous and vastly exceeds the relative gains. How much priority would you put in this relative to all other possible things that one could be doing in Nostr?

Agree, very low priority. But if you want to get loads of people over from twitter the visual appeal is more important than you might think. Maybe we can get the mempool space guys to do something, their dynamic previews are beautiful.

Stacker News is too. I think they run a headless browser, load a page in HTML, then take a screenshot. I'm basically writing the image from raw pixels in Go. The "run a browser" thing is possible, but if I had to do it it would require infrastructure changes and it would leave a bad taste in my mouth. I'll think about it. In the meantime your comments have already made me switch my focus to this stupid issue and try to at least make the current previews slightly better, I don't know how you can sleep at night.

That's the neat part, I can't

To be honest that picture makes it look like I am participating in a dark ritual with blood in cups and the colors are dead.

isn't it the purple "symbol" that indicates you're the real "you"?

yes, so it can be seen always :)

^^ Most users go via the app, so they get the bad version as seen in my screenshot.
