General question for those who have done it or have any expertise... I know it's been discussed plenty but, I like beating dead horses. 😆

I've got a handful of s9's coming my way. If I build a box for the miners and duct that to my central heat/ac return line, will I run into any potential issues?

I plan on putting in an inline damper so I can close it off during the summer.

My thought is that the supplemental heat from the miners will reduce the electricity required by my furnace. And any bitcoin reward will subsidize (or exceed) the difference in heat production efficiency between furnace and miner.

Any issues with noise transmitting thru my ductwork?

Thoughts?

Awesome. Now you can sell your furnace to buy some more miners.

1. They’re super loud; don’t put them under your bedroom

2. Filter that air really well. There’s some dirty air in those ducts, and miners do not care to be dirty.

3. One may want to consider whether placement of miners in series or in parallel would make more sense. In series would be easier, but then the hot exhaust gasses from one would become intake gasses for the next.

4. Bitmain says miners should not be placed in damp areas. Evaluate that crawl space.

Thanks so much for the response! Great things to consider. Would love to replace my central heating with a shitload of miners haha.

The miners will be going in a finished basement in the utility room. There will be one floor between basement and bedrooms so shld be relatively ok on that front. My only worry is noise transfer through the ductwork. I might look into sound dampening the box I place the miners in.

Filtering shld be handled by my furnace. It has an air filter on the outlet before going to the various registers around the house. Any air I feed into the miners will be ambient household air and any air the miners output goes into the furnaces return duct which gets filtered by the furnace on the way out after heating.

Placement of miners is an interesting consideration. Original plan was just to make a big box to fit all the miners and just stick the miners in there. I'd simply let the natural pull of the hvac system to extract the hot air out of the box. The box would have a hole cut out the top and ductwork connecting that to the house's ducts on the return side. I figure my shoddy carpentry would provide plenty of ventilation for fresh air to get into the box. Worst case scenario I just cut another hole as an intake vent for more airflow.
