Still thinking about the success of the Covid-19 vaccine—we have so much “unused tech” that if you throw enough money at it (eg have multiple companies run multiple programs towards it), you can get a pretty quick and dirty (in practice) yet sophisticated (in MOA) vaccine to take a lot of the edge off of hospital admittance.

Basically, it means (maybe) we could throw 10x the usual budget towards other things and probably find workable solutions. We may not be in the realm of ultra attractive ROI for investors, but we’re not far off with those odds.

We are really close to an era where many pharmaceuticals and therapeutics and vaccines will address many infectious and non infectious disease that have plagued us for far too long.

By “unused tech” I don’t mean the vaccine was ready to go, but basically the methods and understanding that would allow us to run programs to find it were pretty much in place (see mRNA vaccine history)
