Anyone use tailscale to connect your machines together but also use a VPN like Mullvad?

I thought Tailscale routed all your traffic through it's servers but I found out today that it only really connects your machines together.

Would it be better to just use Mullvad to connect my node, phone and laptop?

I was reading the Mullvad site and every connection is separate so it doesn't allow you to create a virtual network to link your machines.

Maybe I can install Mullvad using OpenVPN on my router and still have Tailscale to connect my devices.

It kinda depends on what you're trying to do.

The VPN obscures your traffic by sharing a WAN IP with many other users & hiding your traffic from your ISP. Mulvad allows you to do this anonymously.

I believe tailscale creates a tunnel between 2 devices even when you don't have a static IP address.

I do something similar with a cloudflare tunnel connected to my nextCloud server via my domain.

I think tailscale is for when you don't want that connection to be publicly accessible. I haven't played with it but it's on my list.

This.

Yes on how tailscale works. It's great if you wanna access your Umbrel on the go, but doesn't replace a VPN.
