i understand the "coolness" factor of running around with a btc lightning payment ring (like the #boltring) to show how easy it is to make #sats payments, but in reality it's a vulnerable gimick.

unshielded nfc tech like this begs for your coin to be stolen by a cheap rfid skimmer.

is there a way to make the ring more secure? like adding two way authentication?

a toggle switch would work, 2fa could be vulnerable to a mitm attack, leaving it at home in a faraday bag, or not using it at all

toggle switch? interesting, very.

Not a fan of rings or watches for payments because it’s out there totally unprotected but I guess for some people making small everyday payments with its simplicity of use is probably acceptable trade off.

I’d use a satscard like implementation myself that’s in a rfid blocker wallet

good on you. it's a gimmick. you can't sufficiently rfid block a ring on your finger.

I agree. Bolt cards and their offshoots are fun party tricks that are easy to implement, but ultimately distract from real UI improvements, such as broadcasting a Bolt11 invoice over NFC.

say again?

I love my Boltring.

+1

you can set limits on the bolt ring. also it has replay protection.

I'd argue that they aren't even cool. Not the best of products in this space that's for sure
