Really? I’ve always used cyberpunk the same way steampunk is used — as an aesthetic, but in a cyber/tech context.

Something can be dystopian without being cyber, and something can be cyber without necessarily being dystopian.

Cyberpunk entails an oppressive society, whereas cypherpunk attempts to free humanity instead.
