I tend to use the Lindy Principle as an easy litmus test to determine that there’s a place for a certain food, beverage, or activity to benefit ones health.

That being said, alcohol and tobacco both have some pretty significant Lindy behind it.

I don’t know all the ins-and-outs of these industries, but I’m sure what we are drinking and smoking (in most cases) is some extremely degraded version of what we historically consumed.

Additionally - at least in the case of tobacco - this would have been consumed in a ceremonial manner not in the modern abused way that has led to the profanation of the crop.
