Could easily be done as securely as any other key storage method. You'd simply have to secure your physical key by whatever method and level of security makes you comfortable.

The physical key itself would simply be engraved with a pattern representing the bitcoin private key, and a suitable reader designed. Conceptually, much like a QR code.😆
